Vimeo is a video-sharing service. It is a hub of creativity. Time.com calls it “the indie darling to YouTube”. The typical video on Vimeo is a short, artsy, creative film with great photography.
YouTube is one of the most popular sites on the net. You can share videos from your computer or smartphone. It is no surprise that Google bought YouTube for 1.65 billion dollars.
Lala lets you listen to any song once for free. After that listen, you pay 10 cents for unlimited streaming rights (i.e. the song is added to your Lala library of music).
Hulu is TV show and movie streaming service. It is a joint venture of NBC and Fox so most of the content on Hulu is from these two. Definitely a must on any HTPC.
Pandora is internet radio at it’s finest. Enter a song or an artist and Pandora will play similar music. Pandora is intelligent – by giving a song a “thumbs up” or “thumbs down”, Pandora gets to know your musical taste.
Grooveshark lets you search for songs and play them. Other sites charge for what Grooveshark does for free. You (and other people) upload the songs, then everyone can play them. They also have an internet radio option similar to Pandora.
